X Factor

The locals have all emerged from wherever they were hiding earlier on. This town is about the size of Stockton Heath, albeit with five magnificent baroque churches. And in the town square there are about 1000 people and they have organised what seems to be something like the X Factor, I don't think that you will be able to see on the movie but this act was about ten, fifteen year old girls.
It just amazes me that all these people can get together and have a good time without any police or bouncers in high vis jackets. But that's the same in Greece or Albania and probably anywhere other that the UK.

The evening meal

I've eventually managed to eat almost all the quatro formaggio pizza and salad and now I am stuffed. The basalmic vinegar spray is something I've not seen before but it's a great idea.

Cappuccino.

I've found one coffee shop that's open and treated myself to another cappuccino, this is sprinkled with cannella (cinnamon).

Everywhere is closed

It just reminds me of the UK 30 years ago. All the shops are shut, nearly all the coffee shops and restaurants are shut. The streets are deserted goodness knows what the people are doing. There are hardly any cars and absolutely no vans, lorries or buses. And strangely even the churches seem to be shut, I don't understand that. I'd have thought they would all be frantically ringing their bells to attract the faithful. In fact thinking about it I haven't even heard the clocks chiming the hour.

Sicily is closed on Sunday

I knew that the trains wouldn't be running but I didn't realise that there would be no buses either. So I decided to hitch a lift, I was actually aiming for Gela, but Sicilians don't pick up sweaty old men. I began walking and hitching but eventually gave up trying to get a lift. It's funny because in Albania I would have had a lift within a few minutes and in Greece it might have taken 15 mins.
So I've ended up walking from Ragusa to Comiso which is where I am now. It was a bit more than 10 miles which is hard with a rucksack, on the plus side though it was mostly downhill.
